The official Facebook page of the upcoming action role-playing video game "Cyberpunk 2077" has posted an announcement early Wednesday, stating that the release date of the game will be delayed for 21 days from the supposed November 19 release. The new release date will be on December 10, 2020.
According to the announcement by CD Projekt Red's Adam Badowski and Marcin Iwinski, the decision was made due to a big challenge in the production particularly in the shipping of the game to different game console platforms at the same time which will require them to prepare and test 9 versions of the game. The team also reached their sincerest apologies to the fans who are looking forward for the game as this is the fourth time the release date has been moved since its release date reveal last April 16.
The announcement reads:
"Hey everyone,
Today, we've decided to move the release date of CyberPunk 2077 by 21 days. The new release date is December 10th."
"Most likely, there are many emotions and questions in your heads, so, first and foremost, please accept our humble apologies."
"The biggest challenge for us right now is shipping the game on current-gen, next-gen, and PC at the same time, which requires us to prepare and test 9 versions of it (Xbox One/X, compatibility on Xbox Series S|X, PS4/Pro, compatibility on PS5, PC, Stadia)... while working from home. Since Cyberpunk 2077 evolved towards almost being a next-gen title somewhere along the way, we need to make sure everything works well and every version runs smoothly. We're aware it might seem unrealistic when someone says that 21 days can make any difference in such a massive and complex game, but they really do."
"Some of you might also be wondering what these words mean in light of us saying we achieved gold master some time ago. Passing certification, or 'going gold', means the game is ready, can be completed, and has all content in it. But it doesn't mean we stop working on it and raising the quality bar. On the contrary, this is the time where many improvements are being made which will then be distributed via a Day 0 patch. This is the time period we undercalculated."
"We feel we have an amazing game on our hands and are willing to make every decision, even the hardest ones, if it ultimately leads to you getting a video game you'll fall in love with."
"Yours, Adam Badowski & Marcin Iwinski - CD Projekt Red" // end of statement
Varying and mixed reactions by the fans can be seen on the comment section of the post which garnered over 15k+ reacts, 5k+ comments and 8k+ shares in just 30 minutes since posting.
Cyberpunk 2077 game was recently rescheduled for release on November 19 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
The game was initially announced its production in May 2012 and in January 2013, a teaser trailer was released. The game was confirmed for Microsoft Windows the same year, and PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at E3 2018, where they revealed a second trailer and a pre-alpha gameplay demonstration.
A second gameplay demo was shown to E3 and Gamescom attendees in 2019, fifteen minutes of which appeared online in late August, after it was proclaimed for Stadia.
The third trailer was released at the same event where it was originally scheduled for a 16 April 2020 release. This was first delayed to September 17, and subsequently November 19 all due to the effects on production brought upon by the new coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). With E3 2020 cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, CD Projekt's online event Night City Wire showed additional trailers, more gameplay, and making-of footage.
Adapted from the Cyberpunk franchise, the story takes place in dystopian Night City, an open world with six distinct regions. Players assume the first-person perspective of a customisable mercenary known as V, who can acquire skills in hacking and machinery, an arsenal of ranged weapons, and options for melee combat.
Pre-orders are now available through Cyberpunk's Official Website ( https://www.cyberpunk.net ). Owners of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions will be able to freely download the game on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 upon release. Next-generation ports will become available in 2021. The multiplayer will launch later than 2021.
